Can the Rams Shock the World?

 In Blog

As I sit here today the day before the NFL season opener, I think about my team, the Rams and what their state of the team is. To be totally honest, I sense more optimism than pessimism. I hear and read all the cries that this is just a rebuilding year and how the Rams are a couple more years away from competing, but who’s to say the Rams cant compete right now?

Sean McVay, the new Rams head coach, has brought a new energy and mind set to a team that was led to mediocrity each and every year. Nothing against my boy, Jeff Fisher, but he just couldn’t find the right formula to win and to stay consistent for the Rams. By bringing in an offense-oriented coach to develop Jared Goff, the “future”, the Rams have put themselves in position to compete each and every week. The defense, which has always been the strong suit, brought in Defensive Coordinator, Wade Philips. He had led the Broncos to top tier defensive levels each year and looks to do some for the young and talented Ram’s D.

With the free agent additions of pass catcher, Robert Woods, and Top Tackle, Andrew Whitworth, the Rams have really emphasized a win-now approach and seeing how the next couple years pan out. They added weapons and protection for Goff and with a rejuvenated Todd Gurley, who absolutely shit the bed last year, I think the Rams can surely surprise some teams and can make some noise down the stretch. However, this is coming from a guy who has never played a down of contact football, and surely understands the difficulties of implementation on a new team.

The Rams odds to win the Super Bowl right now are 300-1, a far outcry from the Patriots odds or any serious contender. It is laughable, insulting, and down right rude. The rest of the NFL world sees a team that is young and inexperienced and still not ready to compete with the big boys. But did you know the odds of winning the super bowl for the “Greatest Show on Turf” in the preaseason…the year they won the super bowl? 300-1. I stand optimistic and excited to see what this year has in store.
